Be thankful for what you’ve got. The song was originally written in 1972 by William DeVaughn and titled “A Cadillac Don’t Come Easy.” It’s a diamond mind for spectacular manifold cover songs. The song comes with immensely inspiring lyrics that’s the main message presented in a quirky way is about being grateful. The song itself around the time of its release sold 2 million records. Now the record has produced a frenzy of epic cover songs, which I will rank.

#7 Be Thankful For What You’ve Got by Massive Attack covered in 1991 (excluding remix versions)

I love the DJ scratching throughout the song and the background drumming. This version is by far the most alternative and moody version of the song, which is why I ranked it last. While I love the innovation and interpretation I think this song is all about soulfulness, funk, and energy, which this version lacks.

#6 Be Thankful by Bunny Clarke in 1975

The reggae interpretations of this song are epic. The song is perfect for reggae! I love the instrumentals in the background, however, I do find it a little too slow. Again, I think this song is all about upbeat energy. The core of the song is about reminding us to be grateful and the joy of it all.

#5 Be Thankful For What You’ve Got by Donovan Carless

This is definitely a step in the right direction. This is what I’m saying by this song is perfect for reggae. The melody and pace of the instrumental match the energy needed for this song. The only reason this ranked lower is because this song has major competition.

#4 Be Thankful by Omar featuring Erykah Badu

This version I have a soft spot for because Erykah Badu is one of my favorite artists of all time. Putting that aside, I love the funkiness, the beat, and the energy of this cover. This cover really captures what it’s all about and the energy matches! It’s a feel-good!

#3 Be Thankful For What You’ve Got by Love

This version really emulates William De- Vaughn’s version and energy. I almost think that if you didn’t know William De Vaughn’s version or any other versions you would think that this was a Love song. Arthur Lee’s vocals are innovative and fun. Love’s version is the only version to capture the 70’s soul and voice that William De Vaughn brought.

#2 Be Thankful For What You’ve Got by by Lucky Daye, Big Freedia, and BRJNCK.

Now this is funky and fun! The song is the perfect modern uplifting version. Lucky Daye and BJRNCK’s voices really complement each other and bring the soulfulness. Of course Big Freedia brings the energy we need. I’m talking ENERGY! And this beat and instrumental so entertaining. Overall the song is so refreshing and I loved the direction it went in.

#1 Be Thankful For What You’ve Got by William DeVaughn (David Todd Remix)

Of course, this is first place! What did you expect? William DeVaughn knows what the song is all about. The way he sings the lyrics: soulful, the instrumentals: funky, and the energy: high. DeVaughn checks all the boxes and that is why ladies and gentlemen so many talented and musicians of many genres have covered this song.
